New Year, New You: Aesthetic Treatments in 2024 to watch out for

As the year draws to a close, we will be looking ahead to the latest trends in aesthetic treatments in 2024. The world of facial rejuvenation is a fast-paced industry in which new treatments, technologies and aesthetic treatments evolve rapidly. After a year in which TikTok and the Barbie movie dominated, we’ll be looking back at the influences that are impacting aesthetic treatments in 2024. Join us in discussing what’s in store for next year from experts in the aesthetic industry; here are our Top 5 Aesthetic Treatments to keep an eye out for next year:

1. Aesthetic Treatments in 2024 for Men

As we dive into aesthetic treatments in 2024 we are seeing a continuing trend for men seeking treatment with injectables (such as Botox® and dermal fillers). Injectable treatments for men have always been popular, but there has been shift in recent years (in part due to social media) that it is now more socially acceptable than ever for men to have procedures. As the stigma surrounding this diminishes, men are feeling more confident to take care of their appearance with so called “Brotox” and dermal fillers to keep them looking fresh and enhance their features.

Dr Harriet Turnbull (aesthetic doctor and GP) says “I have been treating men for years with Botox® on Harley Street who want to maintain a youthful appearance, often reporting they want to look good at work. What I have seen increasingly in the last few years is younger men in their 20s and 30s looking for tweaks to their appearance, such are a stronger, more masculine chin. You can see how much more educated men are today with regards to the options available in aesthetics”. The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) conducts an annual survey looking at the figures of who is undergoing aesthetic treatments and plastic surgery and which treatments have been most popular.

In 2022, cosmetic surgical procedures in men increased by 121% overall from the previous year with men accounting for 7% of all cosmetic procedures in 2022. This trend of increasing numbers of men having cosmetic surgery is expected to be mirrored in the number of men undergoing aesthetic treatments in 2024. The most popular surgical treatment was rhinoplasty (nose job) which increased by a massive 45% compared to the previous year. Which brings us onto the next expected trend aesthetic treatments in 2024; the non-surgical rhinoplasty (nose job).

2. Non-surgical rhinoplasty (nose job)

Nose jobs have long been an incredibly popular cosmetic treatment, but the development of the non-surgical nose job using dermal filler in recent years with comparable results has been game changing. According to BAAPS audit for 2022, surgical rhinoplasty saw a substantial increase by 67% compared to the previous year. Again, this is likely in part to be explained by social media and rise of “selfie” culture; people are more aware than ever of their appearance on camera including their nose from the side (known as side profile). Patients are often scared to go under the knife for a nose job worrying about risks, downtime, having a general anaesthetic and the possibility of being dissatisfied with the results.

The non-surgical rhinoplasty (also known as nose filler, non-surgical nose job, liquid nose job) is a treatment typically using no more than 1ml of a thick dermal filler (made from hyaluronic acid) that can have results as good as surgical in the right hands. The non-surgical rhinoplasty requires a highly skilled injector on and should only ever be done by a medical professional with the correct training. The non-surgical option is vastly more affording (usually from £450, rather than several thousand pounds) with minimal downtime. The results can be achieved in just 10-20 minutes of treatment, with little sharp (but very tolerable) pain for a few moments. The nose shape can be dramatically changes and results usually last up to 18 months in most patients. The procedure can tackle a bumpy/uneven nose, a prominent “hump”, drooping tip of the nose, sharp the tip of the nose and even improve one’s side profile. Practitioners sometimes recommend treatment of the chin with dermal filler to help balance and harmonise appearance from the side for even better results. At Derma Medical Clinics we use Dr Amrit Thiara’s (CEO, Derm Medical) pioneering rhinoplasty technique for consistently excellent results. It’s not surprising that the non-surgical rhinoplasty is set to trend as an aesthetic treatment in 2024.

3. Focus on skin

Awareness of the importance of taking care of your skin has become more widely known over the last few years and is set to continue as a pattern aesthetic treatments in 2024. For health reasons, we know that wearing a daily high quality, high factor SPF (Sun Protection Factor) is effective in reducing the risk of skin cancer (including life threatening melanoma), but it is also great at preventing skin damage and ageing. We’re hoping to see the end of sun bed use going into 2024, our motto is “fake it, don’t bake it”. From retinols to Vitamin C, the market for skincare brands is huge but the quality varying. We’re predicting increasing use of medical grade skincare to get the most out of your skin care routine. Skin care should always be bespoke and tailored to your unique skin type and needs.

Aesthetic Treatments to watch out for in 2024

Another prediction for aesthetic treatments in 2024 with regards to skin is the ever-increasing popularity of Profhilo. This revolutionary injectable treatment harnesses the power of hyaluronic acid to rejuvenate your skin by acting like an injectable moisturiser and promoting collagen and elastin production taking dull skin, fine lines and giving an overall “tightening” effect to the face. Profhilo differs from traditional dermal fillers in that it doesn’t add volume or change your facial features; instead, it focuses on enhancing the skin’s quality and structure. Profhilo is aesthetic treatment that is here to stay in 2024.

4. Subtle lip fillers

Treatment of the lips with dermal fillers have developed a bad reputation in recent years. Exaggerated pouts on Love Island with overfilled and unbalanced lips have led the public to conclude that this the only way lip filler can look. We’re here to disagree! Looking ahead to aesthetic treatments in 2024, we’re bringing back truly natural looking lip enhancements which are almost undetectable. Subtle dermal filler using carefully placed hyaluronic acid to enhance your existing shape, hydrate and balance lip proportion is the name of the game. Our top tips for assessing if your injector is going to deliver the natural results that you’re looking for is by checking out their portfolio of before and after images. Natural but noticeable results will leave you feeling great and still looking like yourself. If you’ve had fillers before to the lips with over filling it might be worth considering dissolving and starting with a blank canvas.

5. Ageless beauty

Aesthetics and beauty have no upper age limit! Taking care your appearance and feeling your best is a timeless endeavour and not restricted to the young. In aesthetic treatments in 2024 we’re saying goodbye to “anti ageing” and focussing on looking the best version of yourself at point in your life. Moving forward from looking “younger” we’re focussing on look fresh and fabulous at any age. This isn’t about ageing “gracefully”, it’s about ageing positively in a way that is authentic for you. For some that might be a sprinkle of Botox® for others taking up a new and exciting hobby! Ultimately, you do you.

Wrapping up on trends in aesthetic treatments in 2024, there’s one thing that’s here to stay; safety in aesthetic treatments. We recommend that these treatments are only performed by highly trained medical professionals who can discuss the risks and benefits of any aesthetic treatment and make sure you are in safe hands. We’ll be keeping a close eye on aesthetic treatments in 2024 to see if our predictions come true!
